"Book Report's data sharing feature is the best solution I've come across to access client and coauthor data in real-time and with ease, and I have tried many, many solutions. I'll be a Book Report customer for life."

Who Can You Share Data With?

In a word: anyone. We built this feature to be flexible, so that anyone with an email address and an Amazon account can receive your data and browse it in Book Report. Some of the most valuable use cases include:

  • Marketing Agencies: If you hire an agency to manage your advertising, they'll want to make data-driven decisions. Sharing your Book Report data lets them monitor campaign results—no more endless screenshots.
  • Assistants: Many authors hire assistants to handle the non-writing aspects of the business. Sharing your Book Report data empowers them to do deep dives on your behalf or provide an executive summary at the end of the week.
  • Co-Authors: When authors collaborate on a book, only the publishing author sees the sales data. That often leads to questions from co-authors about how it’s selling. Now, the publishing author can share the data so everyone can watch the numbers roll in.
  • Primary Authors: If you run an indie publishing company, you can use Book Report to share each author’s sales data with them. This gives your authors valuable insight, saves you time fielding questions, and avoids surprises when checks go out at the end of the quarter.

Once data is shared, it appears in the recipient’s Book Report account for them to explore however they’d like.

New Attribute

All shared data is marked with a new "Data Owner" attribute, which lets you filter a report to only show data from specific accounts. If you’re receiving data from many authors, this pairs nicely with our new Saved Reports feature.

How It Works

When you share data in Book Report, you choose two things:

  1. Who you’re sharing it with. The invitation can be sent to any email address.
  2. What data you’re sharing. Data sharing isn’t all-or-nothing. You can use the same filters as the Historical tab to pick exactly which data the recipient can see.

Once an invitation is accepted, the recipient can view the matching data from your account. Whenever new data arrives, it appears automatically for them—so long as it matches the filters.

Getting Started

You can send your first Data Sharing invitation in under a minute. Head to the Settings tab, click Share Data…, and follow the steps. For full details, check out the Data Sharing page in our User Guide.

If you’re on a legacy subscription, you’ll be able to try this feature for free for two weeks. After that period, you’ll need to move to one of our new tiers to continue using it.
