Combining Book Versions
When organizing sales and other metrics by book, Book Report needs to keep track of which editions of a book are the same. For example, a book may have been published on multiple distributors, or in multiple formats, but it is still the same book.
Book Report automatically combines books that:
- Are combined on KDP's bookshelf.
- Have identical titles.
But sometimes you may want to manually adjust how Book Report combines your books. For example if you book has a subtitle on one platform but not on another. Book Report has the tools to do so easily.
Manually Combining Books
The first step is to visit the Books tab and find the book you'd like combined with another. Click on the "Combine this book with..." button, and then select the book you'd like to combine it with.
Once you've combined the books, you'll see a "Combined with" tag on the book that was combined. Next to that tag there is an "X" button that can remove the combination.
Details
Each group of books that has been combined has one "representative" book. This is the book whose cover, title, and link are used throughout the reporting interface. Books that are part of a combination that aren't represetative will be "greyed out" in the book list.
The representative book is the one that is combined "into" as opposed to the one that's combined "from". So if you have two books you'd like to combine, start by going to the one you do not want to be the representative book and combine it with the other.
Books that are already part of a combination can not be recombined with another book. To reorganized already combined books, you should start by removing existing combinations.
